With a wide and versatile range of global experience, Muhammad Athar Javed has been contributing to the domain of national/international security for the last 30 years. He heads a couple of think tanks including, Nordic Institute of Stability Studies (NISS – www.nordicstabilitystudies) and Director General at Pakistan House, an Islamabad-based think tank of international affairs: www.pakistanhouse.net

• Visiting lecturer at the Centre for Excellence Defense against Terrorism (COEDAT), (NATO), Ankara – Turkey Since 2017
• Delivered Courses on Terrorist use of WMD (COE-DAT-2016/18/19) and also specializes in technical and critical analysis in the area of policy for countering chemical, biological, and radiological terrorist attacks.

• Visiting faculty at University of Rome Tor Vergata since 2019
• Visiting faculty at National Defense University (NDU) in Islamabad (2013-2014),

• Served in numerous capacities at various governmental and inter-governmental organizations including Canadian Council for Peace and International Security in Ottawa, Copenhagen Peace and Research Institute (COPRI), University of Copenhagen, People’s University of Denmark, Centre for Future and Strategic Studies at Kuwait University.

Qualifications:

• Besides holding Masters in English Literature, Bhawalpur, Pakistan (1990),
• Masters in European Journalism Studies from Cardiff University, UK (1998),
• Studied for PhD at the Institute for Cross-Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen (2000-2010). Research Topic: Ideological Positions of Iranian Clergy.
• Completed National Security Workshop (NSW 13) – Nov. 2011-2012, NDU, Islamabad.
• Completed 2nd Level Advance Master Course in Protection against CBRNe Events (Sept. 2020) – Department of Industrial Engineering, School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy.

He is also a Member Board of Didactic at CBRNe course, Department of Industrial Engineering, School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Rome Tor Vergata..
He is the author of a book, “Biting the Silver Bullet”: Role of Pakistan’s State Institutions in War on Terror (published in 2013 & second ed
He regularly appears on domestic and international, DR1 DR2, TV2 (Danish TV Channels), PTV World, PTV News, RT and Al-Jazeera International, and gives commentary on international security issues. He also writes columns for domestic and international English dailies.
